Abstract

Efficacy of three formulations of 11 insecticides, viz., monocrotophos, fenvalerate, thiodicarb, endosulfan, phosphamidon (sprays); BHC, carbaryl, quinalphos (dusts); and carbofuran, phorate and quinalphos granules was assessed agahst the sorghum stem borer, Chilo partellus (Swinhoe) during kharif season. On the basis of average plant, internode and peduncle infestation; stem and peduncle tunnelling; number of larvae, pupae; and yield, the foliar + rays with emulsions of thiodicarb 0.15 per cent and monocrotophos 0.04 per cent were most effective followed by fenvalerate 0.02 per cent. Treatment with carbofuran granule placement in leaf whorls proved least effective in respect of yield.
