Eighty-eight entries comprising 77 exotic and two indigenous maize material pertaining to introduction nursery, and other indigenous and exotic checks were evaluated for resistance to the maize borer, Chilo partellus (Swinhoe) under artificial infestation. On the basis of 1–9 rating scale, five entries, viz., Pool 15, Pool 27, Pool 16, IA Long ear Syn and Honey June, showing mean damage grade up to 3.5 per plant, proved to be the least susceptible to C. partellus. Fourteen entries, viz., Pool 30, Pool 19, Pool 33, Pool 29, Pool 25, Pool 35 Pool 28, NC 59663, Pool 24, Tuxperate x Tropical QPM (Dent), Pool 17, Pool 26, Tuxpeno QPM and BS-20 showing mean damage grade up to 4.0 per plant were also comparatively less susceptible to C. partellus. Twenty-one entries, exhibiting more than 6.0 damage grade per plant, were highly susceptible to this pest.
