Platerus bhavanii sp. nov. has been described from southern India. This species can be readily recognised from P. pilcheri Dist by the sericeous punctations of the posterior lobe of pronotum; lateral longitudinal dark fascia of the anterior lobe; unstriped condition of the femora and tibiae; and also by the expanded condition of the sixth abdominal segment.
