Abstract

A comparative account of the reproductive organs of three species of Cardiophorus, viz. bucculatus Candeze, unicus Vats & Chauhan, and nigrosuturus Vats & Chauhan was studied with a view to finding out the characters of taxonomic significance. The variations in the location of testes, arrangement and shape of follicles, number and shape of accessory glands may help in determining the relationship among the species. The testes are located medianly below the alimentary canal in C. bucculatus and on its sides in the remaining species. The testicular follicles are compact and elongate in bucculatus and small and rosette-like in other two species. There are four pairs of accessory glands in C. nigrosuturus and two pairs in C. bucculatus and C. unicus. Each antero-ventral gland bears a diverticulum.
