Abstract

Karyological investigations on male individuals of two species of anthicid beetles, viz., Anthicus biplagiatus Lab. and Anthicus diversicornis Pic. revealed 2n = 18 (16 + Xyp); TCL = 26.50 μ and 23.16 μ, respectively. Autosomes were meta-, submeta- and acrocentric, whereas sex chromosomes were acrocentric. Chiasma frequency was 8.0 per nucleus. At present Anthicidae show only a single pathway in the evolution of karyotype involving decrease in the number of chromosomes from the modal polyphagan number.
