Six dual purpose sorghums, viz, DS-1, DS-2, DS-3, DS-4, DS-5 and DS-6 were developed after extensive breeding programme involving parents with moderate levels of resistance to shootfly and stem borer i.e., moderate x moderate crosses. These dual purpose sorghum lines showed resistance to both the shootfly, Atherigona soccata Rond. and stem borer, Chilo partellus (Swinhoe) and possessed other desirable quality traits like plant height, stem girth, total number of leaves, earhead length and breadth as well as grain and green fodder yield.
