Abstract

Thirty-one promising pearl millet entries were evaluated for resistance to important insect pests of pearl millet. Four entries, viz. MH-96, MH-62, ICH-241 and ICH-220 were resistant to shootfly, Atherigona approximata Malloch. Two entries, viz., MH-62 and MH-96 were resistant to grey weevil, Myllocerus spp. Six entries, viz., MH-96, MH-110, ICH-241, MH-61, MH-98 and ICH-220 were resistant to leaf roller, Marasmia trapezalis Guen. Multiple resistance was located in MH-96 against the shootfly, grey weevil and leaf roller. Entry MH-62 showed multiple resistance against the shootfly and grey weevil, while ICH-220 showed multiple resistance against the shootfly and leaf roller. The population of fulgorids, Peregrinus maidis Ashm. was maximum on MH-61, while MH-66, MH-94, MBH-110, MH-80, MH-97, IHC-R-77, MP-51 and MH-90 showed less than 5 adults per plant.
