Abstract

Pachyprotasis malaisei Singh et al. is renamed as P. punctulatis nom. nov. and can he distinguished from its allied species P. pleurochroma Malaise in having frontal area at level of eyes (above in pleurochroma); malar space 0.5 x diameter of median ocellus (1 x in pleurochroma); tergites 2–4 with pale yellowish posterior margins (almost entirely sanguineous in pleurochroma); apical tooth of claw distinctly longer than subapical one (almost equal in pleurochroma); head almost impunctate (densely finely punctated in pleurochroma); clypeus rectangularly incised up to 213 of it medial length (roundly incised up to 114 of its medial length in pleurochroma); and circumocellar furrow present (absent in pleurochroma). P. punctulatis nom. nov. showed population variations in colour, being entirely black on metatibia in some specimens to only posterior stripe along entire nietatibia or only apical ring around it. Both the sexes are widely distributed throughout the himalayan belt covering Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. It occurred from a low altitude of 1600 m amsl in north-eastern states to 3000 m amsl in the western Himalaya.
