Abstract

A study for determining the rate of multiplication of Callosobruchus chinensis (Linnaeus) was conducted at 27°C temperature and 70 per cent relative humidity on preferred host pulse, green gram/mung bean, Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek. Under conditions of abundant space and food supply, population of C. chinensis increased with 0.080 (rm) and 1.08 (λ) per day. The population multiplied 11.34 times between two successive generations and mean time for completing a generation was 30.51 days. On reaching the stable age distribution, the populaton of C. chinensis in various stages, viz., egg, larva, pupa and adult contributed to the tune of 46.11, 45.61, 5.55 and 2.71 per cent, respectively.
