A new species of Megapenthes Kiesenwetter, viz., M. equalis is described and illustrated from India. This new species can be separated from its allied species M. variabilis Vats & Chauhan as flagellar segments without median longitudinal carina (carinate in variabilis), pronotum as long as broad (longer than broad in variabilis), metabasitarsus shorter than following 2 joints combined (equal in variabilis), pronotum with double punctation (simple in variabilis), and frons with anterior margin arcuate (subconical in variabilis).
