Abstract

Nine thousand rice germplasms obtained from Central Rice Research Institute, Cuttack, Orissa (India) were evaluated under field conditions against the rice gall midge, Oneolltl oryzae. Thirty three entries were found resistant to this pest, the plant damage score being 0–0.97% silver shoots. However, 24 entries, viz., AC 16162, AC 25483, AC 19685, A; AC 22884, AC 23626, AC 24281, AC 17694, AC 17876, AC 22351, AC 86675, INDCR 3805, INDCR 4247, INDCR 4311, AC 19674, AC 22322, AC 27189, AC 190189, AC 16137, AC 86549, AC 24308, AC 16864, AC 16848, AC 16933 and AC 17253 were completely free from the gall midge attack. Such sources of resistance would serve as genetic arsenal in the gall midge resistant donor gene pool.
