Abstract

Pusa chari hybrid 106 (PCH 106) was identified as promising multicut forage sorghum hybrid for the first time. It was developed from a cross of CMS 2219 A x Pusa chari 23. Its performance over three years showed yields of green, and dry fodder as 70 and 17.2 tonnestha, respectively, in 3 cuts at 45–50 day intervals. This hybrid established 11–16% advantage over earlier released hybrids and 21% increase over popular multicut variety SSG 59-3. This is the first multicut forage hybrid developed by Public Sector and exhibited moderate resistance to the shootfly, Atherigona soccata Rondani and stem borer, Chilo partellus (Swinhoe) and foliar diseases.
