Four types of pheromone traps, viz, sleeve trap, ICRISAT model funnel trap, Green Tech Agro Products funnel trap (GTAP), and yellow funnel trap with white cylindrical plastic container (YFT) were evaluated at different locations during 1995–96 on LRA 5166 cotton (summer crop), TCHB 213 interspecific hybrid (winter crop), and MCU 5 (hirsutum variety) cotton for their efficacy in attracting moths of Heliothis armigera Hub. The traps with one mg of septum were installed 50 days after sowing. Yellow funnel trap with white plastic container and GTAP attracted 38.56 and T 14.22 moths/trap/13 weeks, respectively under field conditions. This was followed by ICRISAT funnel trap and sleeve trap showing significantly low moth catches. In the laboratory, YFT and GTAP traps attracted 11.67 and 6.90 moths, respectively. Placing the trap at 90 cm from ground level (at crop canopy level) was effective with 6.56 moths/trap/7 weeks as compared to traps at 30 and 60 cm with 3.66 and 2.56 moths, respectively.
