Abstract

The monitoring of the host plants of the Indian lac insect, Kerria lacca (Kerr.) was done during 1995–96 mainly at the plantation of Indian Lac Research Institute, Namkum, Ranchi, Bihar and near premises, namely, Institute main campus, Kojatoli, Patratoli and Tetritoli. The survey revealed that host plants belong to 32 genera and 53 species. Out of these, five host plants, viz, Acacia auriculaeformis A. Cunn., Acacia farnesiana Willd., Dalbergia siemaoensis, Eriolaena spectabilis Planchon and Samanea saman Merril were exotic species.
