Abstract

Four new species, viz., bengalensis, indianus, kumnyuni and anili are added to the existing fauna of Agrypnus Eschseholtz from India. These species were collected from hilly region of North-East Himalaya, except A. kumayuni which was restricted to Kumayun hills in northern part of Himalaya. A. bengalensis can he set aside from its closely related species A. acristatus Vats & Kashyap as: prothorax with simple punctation (double in latter), pronotal posterior angle carinate (ecarinate in latter) and body covered with dense flammeus scales (moderate yellow and brown in latter). The features distinuishing A. indianus and its allied species A. kuluensis Vats & Kashyap are: antenna unicolour (bicolour in latter), carina on posterior angles of prothorax complete (broken in latter), and pubeseence dense (sparse in latter). A. kumayuni and its related species A. agrestis Vats & Kashyap can be differentiated as: lateral margin of prothorax entire (crenulate in latter), elytra rounded at extremity (indented in latter), and pubescence dense (sparse in latter). The charaeters setting aside A. anili from A. saltatus Vats & Kashyap are: elytra rounded at extremity (indented in latter), pronotal punctation dense (sparse in latter), and scutellum uniformly fuseus (brownish with black margins in latter). Besides these morphological characters, the genitalia of these new species showed great variations from those of their allied species.
