Abstract

Five new multivoltine (BL series) x bivoltine silkworm (Bombyx mori L.) hybrid combinations along with the ruling crossbreed, PM x NB4D2 were evaluated, for the cumulative effect of six economic traits, viz, larval duration, yield per lo4larvae (effective rate of rearing; ERR) by number, ERR by weight, cocoon weight, cocoon shell weight, and silk ratio to identify suitable silkworm hybrid combinations (Inultivoltine x bivoltine) for Rayalaseema (Andhra Pradesh) conditions. On the basis of ‘evaluation index’ (E.I.), two of them, viz, BL 24 x NB4D2 (E.I. = 65.61) and BL26 x NB4D2 (E.I. = 50.21) scored higher E.I. values, i.e., > 50 and designated as suitable silkworm hybrid combinations.
