Abstract

Three new species of Tenthredo Linnaeus, viz., T. vatsi, T. melanocephala and T. subrugipleura are described and illustrated from India. These new species can be set aside from their allied species as: mesonotal middle lobe entirely black, metatibia with only apical black dot, clypeus roundly incised; post-, inter- and circumocellar furrows distinct, postocellar area broader than long as 5:4, malar space 1.5x diameter of median ocellus, antennal segments 5 onwards brownish in vatsi (mesonotal middle lobe black with yellow sagittated apex, metatibia with apical 112 black, clypeus subrectangularly incised; post-, inter- and circumocellar furrows shallow, postocellar area broader than long as 3:2, malar space 2x diameter of median ocellus, antennal segments 6 with apical 113 onwards brownish in gangriaensis Singh & Saini); antennal segments 7–9 yellow, black spot on frontal area not touching eyes margins, postocellar area black in melanocephala (antennal segments 4–9 yellow, black spot on frontal area touching upper eye margins, postocellar area pale in imbricata Muche); and mesopleura subrugose; scape and pedicel as 4:3, mesoscutellar appendage shallowly punctate and carinate, apical 5 antennal segments fuscous to black, antennal segment 3 almost equal to 4, mesoscutellum bicoloured in subrugipleura (mesopleura impunctate, scape and pedicel as 2:1, mesoscutellar appendage impunctate and ecarinate, apical 4 antennal segments black; antennal segment 3 shorter than 4, mesoscutellum unicoloured in acupunctata Singh & Saini).
