Abstract

The genus Trypheromera Butler based on the type species adversata Schaller has been revalidated and recharacterized. Male and female genitalic characters have been included in the revised diagnosis of the genus. The genitalic features of adversata Schaller are entirely different from that of lacticina, and the former species does not conform to the characterization of the latter species of the genus Nyctemera Hubner. In male genitalia of lacticinia, uncus is simple. However, it is trifid in the present species. Not only the uncus but also other male genitalic structures, for instance, absence of ampulla, simple valva with broad basal saccular portion, robust hook like distal zone, strong flap at the base of costa and presence of a single signum in corpus bursae of female genitalia make it drastically different from the type species, Iacticinia Cramer. Such vast differences, necessitated the suppressed genus Trypheromera Butler to be brought into use again after reviving it from the synonymy of genus Nyctemera Hubner. The present status of this species thus becomes as Trypheromera adversata (Schaller) n. comb.
