Abstract

The toxicity of alcoholic extracts of Artemisia annua, Carica papaya, Cuscuta reflexa and Lantana indica to culine larvae was evaluated according to the standard W.H.O. procedure. The mortality observations were recorded 24 and 48 hours after exposure. The LC50 values for the extracts of A. annua, C. papaya, C. reflexa and L. indica were 0.29, 0.67, 0.015 and 1.19 after 24 hr exposure; and 0.16, 0.66, 0.010 and 1.05 after 48 hr exposure, respectively. The extract of C. reflexa was the most toxic to Culex larvae, irrespective of the exposure period, followed by the extract of A. annua, C.papaya, and L. indica. Thus, the extracts of C. reflexa and A. annua could be exploited for the effective management of Culev larvae.
