Abstract

In all, twenty-six species of scarabaeid beetles were caught on the light trap and belonged to 8 sub-families, viz, Melolonthinae (11species), Rutelinae (7 species), Sericinae (1 species), Dynastiinae (2 species), Cetoniinae (1 species), Troginae (1 species), Scarabinae (1 species),and Aphodinae (2 species). Out of 1238 scarabaeid beetles collected on the light trap, 490 beetles of Holotrichia longipennis Blanch. were trapped, followed by Brahmina coriaceae Hope (221 beetles). Maladera sp. ranked third (90 beetles). The emergence of the beetles of H. longipennis Blanch. commenced from 26th May, 1997 following 11.40 mm rainfall on May 25th, 1997 and emergence continued till 4th September, 1997. The peak emergence period was observed from 18th June, 1997 to 1st July, 1997 following 18.80 mm rainfall on 17th June, 1997. On the basis of light trap catch and light trap:host tree ratio (1:1.17), Holotrichia longipennis Blanch. was obse~edto be the predominant species in Garhwal region of U.P. hills.
