Abstract

Laboratory analysis of redgram procured from the respondents families and stored for six months in gunny bags and kothi revealed that per cent infestation due to Callosobruchus maculatus Fabr. increased with the increase in moisture content, the infestation being 19.0 and 45.0 per cent, respectively. Consequently, the germinability, dhal recovery and water absorption capacity of redgram decreased. An inverse relationship was found between the cooking time and per cent insect infestation. The storage of redgram in gunny bags was better than in kothi in every aspect.
