Abstract

The placement of two satyrid species, viz, kalinda Moore and shalada Marshall and de Nicèville, has been justified under the genus Paralasa Moore. Their congeneric nature has been assessed through the examination of their male and female genitalia. The structures such as the uncus, tegumen and valva of the male genitalia and the corpus bursae, signa, origin of ductus seminalis and lamella antevaginalis of the female genitalia of P. shallada (Marshall and de Nièville) broadly conform to the type-species kalinda Moore of the genus Paralasa. Besides, the genitalic characters have also been utilized for interspecific discrimination of these two species. The type-species is quite rare and the other is moderately abundant, as indicated by surveys. Both the species are represented by their nominotypes.
