Abstract

Amongst the eight weed hosts studied, kunjar (Achyranthes aspera L.), kambarmodi (Tridax procumbens L.), tanduljira (Amaranthus polygamus L.), Congress grass (Parthenium hysterophorus L.) and pandharifuli (Lagascea mollis Cav.) could not sustain the development of Heliothis armigera (Hüb.) and recorded 100 per cent larval mortality. Though the larvae could complete their life eycle on kapalphodi (Physalis minima L.), dudhi (Euphorbia microphylla Heyne) and pandharidudhi (Euphorbia hirta L.), the adult emergence ranged from 13.33–17.33 per cent. Sueh adults did not lay eggs.
