Abstract

The yield losses due to rodent damage in wheat crop grown under varying systems in Madhya Pradesh (India) were estimated during 1994–95 & 1995–96. The mean number of cut tillers varied from 0.54–9.25/m2 in mono-cropping and 1.59–17.30/m2 in double cropping systems in wheat (succession to ricehoybean). This resulted in 25.65 and 74.43 kg/ha yield loss due to rodents in both the situations, respectively. The rodent species encountered in the wheat fields were lesser bandicoot rat (Bandicota bengalensis G.), soft furred rat (Millardia meltada G.) and field mouse (Mus booduga G.).
