Combining ability analysis of indigenous and exotic inbred lines of maize (Zea mays L.) in single cross combinations for reaction to the stem borer, Chilo partellus (Swinhoe)

Combining ability response of 45 F₁ hybrids and 10 inbred (I) parents were worked out to know the impact and value of inbred lines and crosses in hybrid combinations. The crosses, viz., I₄ × I₅, I₄ × I₈, I₆ × I₉, I₃ × I₇ and I₂ × I₈ were better combinations for grain yield as also better for less reaction to the stem borer, Chilo partellus (Swinhoe).
