Abstract

Among the two species of honeybees, Apis cerana indica started foraging earlier (9.30 AM) than the Apis mellifera (9.46 A.M.) and ceased her activities first i.e. 3.37 PM as compared to A. mellifera, which continued foraging upto 4.09 PM and spent more time (6.39-hr) for gathering a load of pollen or nectar or both as compared to A. c. indica (6.06-hr) in a day during the month of December 1999 and January 2000. Age of the flower, day hours and weather factors all influenced the foraging activity of honeybees.
