The present investigation is an attempt to understand the histology of the neurosecretory system of Chrotogonus trachypterus. In pars intercerebralis medialis region neurosecretory cells were most conspicuous and differentiated into ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ types. ‘A’ and ‘B’ cells are few in number and more conspicuous due to the neurosecretory material available in perikarya in these cells. Cells showed positive reaction with stain, were designated as ‘A’ cells and rest are those which showed negative reaction were designated as ‘B’ and ‘C’ cells respectively. ‘A’ type of cells are further distinguished cytomorphologically into ‘A1’ and ‘A2’ subtypes. ‘A’ type of neurosecretory cells are distributed in pars intercerebralis medialis of protocerebrum only while ‘B’ and ‘C’ type of cells are present in medialis as well as in lateral region. ‘B’ and ‘C’ cells do not stain dark, which show that little amount of neurosecretory material are present in them.
