One new subspecies, Sphingonotus obscuratus samnuensis from Libyan state of Fezzan has been described and illustrated and another subspecies, S. obscuratus lameerei Finot which was so far reported from Algeria only, has been reported for the first time in Libya. S. obscuratus obscuratus (Walker), the only known nominate subspecies from Libya is reported for the first time from Fezzan region (Libya). A key to Libyan subspecies has been provided. Some additional characters of male and female genitalic structures are also given.
