Host range studies on Thrips palmi Karny (Thripidae, Thysanoptera)

Abstract

Thrips palmi adults were recorded in 9 of 15 crop plants, 6 of 9 fruit trees, 12 of 17 vegetable crops, 17 of 24 ornamental plants and 27 of 45 weed species. Crop plants such as urdbean, mungbean, cowpea and soybean colonized large population of T. palmi besides some of the annual and perennial ornamental hosts also served as sources for the multiplication of T. palmi. In fruit trees less number of thrips were recorded. Among the weeds Ageratum conyzoldes, Cassia tora, Parthenlum hlsterophorus and commellna bengalensis harbored large number of T. palmi.
