Abstract

The effect of refrigeration on eggs showed significant variations. The prerefrigerated eggs of 48, 72 and 96 hrs. if subjected to refrigeration, showed adverse effect. The lipid content was influenced by the cold storage and the same was also influenced according to the duration of pre-refrigeration. The pre-refrigerated eggs of 120 and 144 hrs. (blue stage) duration presented better hatchability compared to 48, 72 and 96 hrs., if subjected to refrigeration. The mortality and end of III instar of the experimental groups showed a gradual increase but larval weight showed a gradual loss in weight when the days of refrigeration increased.
