Abstract

Field experiments in a plot size of (4.5 × 4.5) m2 with 7 concentrtc squares at spacing of 30 cm have been conducted to estimate the incidence of jute insect pests, viz. semilooper, Anomls sabullfera Guen and stem weevil, Apion corehorl Marshall on capsularls jute variety UPC-94 during khurif seasons 1999–2000, 2000–2001 and 2001–2002; olltorlus jute variety UPC-524 during kharif seasons 2001–02, 2002–03 and 2003–04. The data have been subjected to the calculation of CV% and RV% values of separate rows, combination of rows and different directions. The lower CV% and RV% values indicated that row 6, combination of rows 345 and west followed by north direction were most suitable for sampling of semilooper; row 2, combination of rows 123 and north followed by west direction were most suitable for sampling of stem weevil on variety UPC-94. However, on variety JRO-524, row 3, combination of rows 345 and west followed by north direction for semllooper; row 3, combination of rows 234 and east followed by west direction for stem weevil were most suitable.
