Studies in changes in the total proteins, free amino acids and carbohydrates in the haemolymph of sixth Instar larvae, prepupae and pupae of Orthaga revealed that total proteins decline per larva initially at 24h period, then increase steadily during larval and prepupal period. During pupal development they further decrease steadily. There occurs slight fluctuation In the total proteins per ml of haemolymph during the larval and pupal period. The concentration of free amino acids, which increases slightly at 24h period declines till the second day prepupa but shows an increase on the third day prepupa. During pupal period it decreases gradually but increases again at the end of pupal period. The concentration of total carbohydrates shows steady decline during larval period, but increases in first and second day prepupa and again decreases In the third day prepupae and during pupal period. The retention of proteins in the haemolymph and their sequestration in to the fat body are in a dynamic equilibrium synchronized with the gross physiological state of the organism.
