Abstract

An attempt has been made to harvest borer-free brinjals using physical barriers like transparent polythene, brass paper and newspaper packets and were used to protect the crop from fruit & shoot borer, (Leucinodes orbonalis Guenn.). Through this eco-friendly method healthy, fresh, soft, speckless and quality fruits were harvested. These physical barriers also saved the berries from the contamination of other predisposing factors and reduced the loss by birds. Paper packets are cheap and biodegradable. Forty to fifty man-days are sufficient to bag the fruits at 2 to 3 g stage in one acre land. This gives the scope of producing organic brinjals, valued highly in the domestic and international markets.
