Foraging and hive profiles of Apis cerana F. (Hymenoptera: Apidae)

Abstract

Studies on the foraging and hive profiles of the Indian honeybee, Apis cerana F. revealed that the number of pollen foragers was more during 9.00 to 11.00 hours and nectar foragers were maximum during 13.00 to 16.00 hours of the day. The number of nectar foragers was maximum during January to April. However, the number of pollen foragers was greater during November and December followed by March and April. Similarly, the maximum brood, pollen and honey area were also recorded during the same period.
