Abstract

Aphids, Myzus persicae (Sulzer) and Aphis gossypii, Glover were found most important virus-vectors on potato and reached the peak during third and fourth week of February. Aphid population was positively correlated with temperature, rainfall and sunshine hours, but negatively correlated with relative humidity and a significant cumulative effect of all these abiotic parameters was observed on aphid population developing on potato. Among the viral diseases, transmitted by the aphids, PLRV (up to 17.5%) always outnumbered the PVY infestation (up to 7.00%). The population of other virus-vectors, viz. whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Genn.) and leafhopper, Amrasca biguttula biguttula (Ishida) were not so significant.
