Ultra morphological studies on the fore legs of Cylas formicarius (Fabr.) (Brentidae: Coleoptera)
Abstract
The foreleg ultra morphology of sweet potato weevil Cylas formicarius (Fabricius), explains the modifications that occur on the tibia and the empodium. The proximal tibial segment bears a thick row of setae that forms the antennal ‘comb’ or ‘rake’ whereas the distal segment bears the fossula spongiosa. The structure of the empodium and the origin of claws were also included.
