Indigenous plant-derived products for pest management in cereal crops in India
Abstract
Indigenous plants belonging to 17 families have been examined in India but neem, Azadirachta indica A. Juss. (Meliaceae), was found widely used for its antifeedant, repellent, oviposition deterrent, growth regulatory and toxic effects. The pests successfully managed by applying plant products include termites, stem borers, leaf feeders and birds. Though plant preparations are not as effective as pesticides against pests but are being recommended for avoiding, harmful residues in fodder and grains, pest resurgence, pest resistance to common pesticides and also for safety to environment. This review deals with the successful application of plant products in the control of different groups of pests.
