Insect pests of bamboo in Aligarh, India

Abstract

A survey was conducted in Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh, India for pest species infesting different bamboo species of the area. Based on their on injury status, Algedonia coclesalis, Asterolecanium bambusae, Brtona funeralis, Cyrtotrachelus buqueti, Estigmena chinensis, Olethreutes paragramma, Oligia vulgaris, Oregma bambusae, Udonga montana were found major pests while Aleurocanthus arundinacea, Crocidophora ptyophora, Dorysthenes walkeri, Massepha absolutalis, Myocalandra exarata, Parasa bicoor, Pionea flavoflmbriata, Poecilocerus pictus, Schistocera gregaria were minor pests. Based on literature collected, a compiled check list of Bamboo pest found during the survey was compiled covering different aspects.
