A study conducted on absconding behaviour of Apis dorsata during dearth period (May and June), revealed that most of the colonies (50 per cent) absconded due to scarcity of flora (flowers providing nectar and pollen) 25 per cent because of the attack of wax moths (Galleria mellonella) and 10 per cent due to exposure of colonies to direct intensive sunlight. While Remaining 15 per cent colonies which were in favourable conditions did not abscond. Bee hives of this species were observed at the places having good flora, fresh water and shadow during dearth period.
