Abstract

It was found that gummosis-termite complex is a fatal combination and kills the tree. Termite use the splits on the bark, resulting from gummosis, as entry points and starts to feed on cambium first and then on wood and continues to feed on the wood beneath the bark while moving upward along the length of the main trunk and eventually hollows out it leading to death of the tree. It was found that integrated treatment comprising of two-time application of bordeaux mixture 5% or copper oxychloride @3g a.i./It. of water on tree trunk, chlorpyriphos @30ml a.i./lt of water in vertical tunnels in ground around termatorium and soil drenching with chlorpyriphos 2% a.i. immediately after removal of gummosis - affected areas and termite galleries provided effective protection against gummosis-termite complex.
