An efficient method for mapping hot spot areas of crop pests in India using Geographic Information System (GIS) Arc-info software package has been developed. The distribution maps of insect pests and diseases of the paddy crop were prepared using pest data of paddy crop from 1990–1995 which was collected from Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine and Storage (DPPQ&S), Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India and All India Coordinated Research Project on Rice (AICRPR), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). These data are the outcome of regular surveys conducted by these organizations on paddy insect pests and diseases in the paddy growing areas of the country. The individual year's scenario as well as the scenario of the entire period of the collected data can be shown through the prepared maps using GIS. With this technology, a total of 77 maps along with one index map of India and agro-ecological region map were prepared.
