Abstract

Fifteen paddy varieties were evaluated for their relative resistance/susceptibility to angoumois grain moth Sitotroga cerealella on the basis of biological parameters of the paddy varieties. Among the test varieties Jaya, Kavya, HR-35, Mashuri and HR-59 were categorised as moderately resistant while MTU-1075 was highly susceptible to the pest attack. The other varieties showed intermediate reaction. The physical parameters of the varieties like seed size, colour, texture, hardness, intergranular space and husk thickness were tested and correlated with biological parameters. Among the physical parameters grain texture, hardness and husk thickness of paddy varieties contributed to the resistance against S. cerealella.
