Abstract

Twelve popular early medium land varieties were evaluated against yellow stem borer under irrigated condition. Early medium varieties like Konark, Kumar, Ananga, Amaravati and Vikash indicated compensatory mechanism when infestation took place at vegetative stage. Appreciable reduction in ear bearing tillers (EBT), various yield attributing characters, plant bio-mass and ultimately yield was observed in other varieties as compared to TKM-6, Sasyashree and Sarathi. Ratna showed tolerance both at vegetative and reproductive stages.
