Abstract

the lowland rice races of Orissa showed higher damage levels to yellow stem borer than the semi dwarf high yielding varieties and the plants had no compensation mechanism except in case of Athagadia where compensation mechanism operated at a very low level when infestation was made at vegetative stage. However infestation at reproductive stage, % Ebt, all the yield contributing characters and ultimate yield were reduced appreciably in all test varieties.
