Some aspects of ecology of phlebotomine sandflies (Diptera: Psychodidae) were studied from January to December 2009 in the five northern districts of Uttar Pradesh, India. In total, 881 sandflies were caught, identified as belonging to eight species from two genera. Sergentomyia punjabaensis and S. babu were predominant with 60.39% and 36.78% respectively. Six other species including P. papatasi (1.02%) were also found in almost negligible numbers. Monthly mean temperature, rainfall and the temperature of the collection night significantly influenced the composition of the species. This work, based on highly diversified data from various stations, comprising several biotypes sampled during different seasons, provides new information on the ecology of sand flies in northern districts of Uttar Pradesh.
