Abstract

During a year long study period, a total of 2664 contact making female mosquitoes were collected. Culex quinquefasciatus (44.11%) was the most frequently collected species, while Anopheles annularis (0.82%) was the least frequently collected. Altogether, 126 Ma. annulifera and 77 Ma. indiana were collected during the study period. The highest density for both the species was recorded in the month of September. Statistically significant variation was also noticed in Mansonia mosquitoes during different quadrant of night. Lower extremities were expressed as most preferential biting sites for both the mosquitoes. From two infected Ma. annulifera mosquitoes 16 larvae including 7 microfilariae and 9 first stage larvae of Wuchereria bancrofti were recorded.
