Abstract

The commonly consumed insects include lepidopteran caterpillars, and termites. The insects are generally handpicked and subjected to different kinds of pretreatment before they are consumed. The different species of caterpillars consumed are locally called as Niang Phlang, Niang long, Niang wad and Niang tnum and termites are locally referred to as Kber. The mineral content of freeze and oven dried form of Niang Phlang and Niang tnum did not vary significantly (p ≥ 0.05).Differences between crude protein and carbohydrate of Niang Phlang and Niang tnum was signifi cant (p ≤ 0.05).
