Abstract

Karyological investigations were carried out on adult males of four species of Pleurosticti (Scarabaeoid) beetles belonging to two subfamilies Cetoniinae and Rutelinae viz, Anatona stillata Newman, Oxycetonia versicolor (Fabricius), Adoretus bicolor Brenske and Anamala ruficapilla Burm. Adoretus bicolor Brenske posses 2n = 22:10 + Xyp and A. ruficapilla posses 2n = 18:8 + Xyp sex mechanism. Remaining two species exhibited the ‘modal’ Polyphagan karyotype 2n = 20:9 + Xyp sex mechanism. Mitosis and meiosis have been described and discussed.
