Studies on internal male reproductive organs and course of meiosis in a predator species Repipta taurus (Fabricius, 1803) (Heteroptera: Reduviidae: Harpactorinae)
Abstract
Male reproductive organs of Repipta taurus (Heteroptera: Reduviidae) consist of heart-shaped bipartite testes lying on the sides of the alimentary tract. From the base of each testis arises vas deferens which opens into the ductus ejaculatorius. There are two accessory glands, each consisting of five lobes. Duct from each accessory gland opens directly into the ductus ejaculatorius. The chromosomal complement of Repipta taurus is 2n = 28 = 24A + X1X2X3Y. Male meiosis shows a unique pattern of chromosomal arrangement at metaphase-I. Metaphase-II is usual of reduviid type.
