Five types of indoor containers and 13 types of outdoor containers in three towns viz., Berhampur, Gopalpur-on-sea and Chhatrapur in the southern part of Odisha state were surveyed during July-October 2009. the containers positive for Aedes larvae were recorded and container index (CI%) and breeding preference ratio (BPr) were also calculated. the results indicated that the Aedes mosquitoes preferred earthen pots both in the indoors and outdoors and discarded tyres, plant pots and old vehicles/boats lying outdoors for laying eggs. Discarded tyres and old vehicles/boats are the best preferred breeding sites as the water remains undisturbed in them.
